A Milestone

‘Settling In’ period – now this might sound a little heavy, but it is that period my little one is in right now before going to nursery/day care. It indeed is a major milestone for us and Sugar. A and myself did have quite a bit of discussion on when to send Sugar to nursery, with Sugar’s grandparents being around taking care for sometime, plus, she is barely One and so on. With a few opinions that differed between us, I kept wondering how we would accede on this very point and take the decision. We did think for a couple of months, enquired the nursery that is just a few minutes away from our house and checked out the place, the kids, the staff everything. It all looked good and the reviews we’ve heard about this nursery are good as well. But, I was sceptical and thought it was way too early for her. I’ve grown more anxious lately with anything concerning Sugar and I am convinced that it is a natural instinct a mother develops. As we both are full time working parents we needed to discuss this matter quite early. I dreaded it and I thought since my parents were around what was the necessity to send Sugar to nursery early on? I wasn’t prepared to send her until she turned 2 at least. I also mentioned that I was ready to quit my job, but that’s another topic for discussion and I wouldn’t want to digress at this point. A is a very practical person and I’m pretty emotional. He sat me through a few sessions advising, warning, giving lectures on practical benefits of enrolling your little one to a nursery even while having great support like grandparents at home. His point was what would happen after my parents left. Although my MIL would be around, it might be difficult to manage it all alone. And beyond all these reasons he said to think for Sugar where she would start meeting new kids, playing, socialising with other kids, more exposed to a lot of new things, new learning, new world altogether. She would realise that she cannot be the centre of attraction all the time. At first I still sulked, I thought, I analysed and finally agreed with A that we would start sending her to Nursery soon as she turned one and my parents too were happy with the decision.

Both A and I are ever are ever grateful to my parents for having taken care of Sugar, being there for her since the minute she was born and so carefully bringing her up, doing everything. The sense of security my parents gave us is immense and unmatchable. It wouldn’t have been possible without them. I’m sure they would continue to support, give security and be there for us and Sugar in future too. Well, there would be a separate blog post on this matter anyway, For now, yes, Sugar has started her ‘Settle In’ period today for an hour and would go for 2 more days before she starts going with her bag and her sweet self for a few consecutive hours each day. Hope everything goes well God showers his blessings as she hits this milestone!
