What's the Weather Like?

Hola! It’s been a while since I wrote anything at all in my blog coz’ of the same old complaints - busy life, hectic work, guests pouring in etc. But, am I seeking excuses to do something that I'd love to, that relaxes me – writing? I don’t wish to write something just for the heck of it or to while my time away scribbling something that makes no sense, but today, couldn’t resist talking about how Brits cannot do away without holding a discussion about the weather.

In England, people are ever thrilled, ever interested in discussing the weather. It makes you wonder and ponder thoroughly seeing how people manage to primarily discuss about the weather, either in the beginning, amidst, or at the end of their conversation. As per my observation, this very topic interests them so much that, should you hold a different opinion to theirs, then, you might get ‘You are not normal’ kind of a look. Of course, acknowledging them realistically comes natural, but, if for some reasons, you feel the opposite, then you are sure to be nagged in a very sarcastic manner. Rule – never contradict anybody when discussing the weather. Should it get hot, burn everything to ashes, rain crazily or snow, and should someone tell you “Lovely weather isn’t it”? - respond without thinking “Isn’t it great?”

Examples:

In summer,

“Nice day, isn’t it?”
“Isn’t it wonderful?”
“It is Bright and Gorgeous”
“You feel so good when it’s nice and warm – don’t you?”
“The sun…I love it”.

During Winter/Rainy/Snow

“Oh! Such a horrible day, isn’t it?
“Isn’t it nasty?”
“The rain/snow … I hate it”.
“Makes me depressed…”
“It was better last Nov, wasn’t it?”
“Yes it was”.
Or, was it the year before that?”
“Yeah, I guess so”.

Ironically, so to speak, you would soon realise that you are also slowly getting influenced picking up these weather interrogations yourself. Like how each time I call my mum/sis anyone who is not in the UK and in the course of our conversation, I do actually enquire about the weather there! I realised it when my mum commented lately saying “Why do you ask about the weather every other time you talk to me? You know how the weather in Bangalore around this time of the year, would be – don’t you”? :)
